July 9-13: "Get Back, Get Back to Where You Once Belonged"
I researched Piri Thomas. I imagine his story is similar to many growing up in the ghettos. He was discriminated against because of his color and his mother died at young age. Once his mother was gone, there was nothing to keep him from the gangs. He eventually succumbed to the gangs and ended up in prison as a result. While most continue their downward spiral in prison, he was able to better himself because he “was going to make time serve me” and he did. He has written several books, is actively giving back to the community and trying to keep youngsters out of gangs.
